Audi Unveils 1,001 PS Nuvolari Supercar, Its Fastest and Most Powerful Production Car Ever
Audi has unveiled the Nuvolari, a limited-production hybrid supercar that becomes the most powerful and fastest road-going Audi ever built. With 1,001 PS, a top speed exceeding 350 km/h, and Formula 1-inspired technology, the Nuvolari also previews the brand's next-generation design language and future performance ambitions.
Audi has officially taken the wraps off the all-new Nuvolari, a limited-production hybrid supercar that not only becomes the most powerful road-going Audi ever built but also signals a new direction for the German automaker's future design and technology ambitions. Limited to just 499 units worldwide, the Audi Nuvolari combines Formula 1-inspired engineering, a high-performance hybrid powertrain, and an entirely new design language that will influence future Audi vehicles. The unveiling marks Audi's return to the supercar segment after the retirement of the iconic R8. While the R8 helped establish Audi's performance credentials over the past two decades, the Nuvolari arrives with significantly more power, advanced electrification, and a stronger focus on technology transfer from motorsport.
At the heart of the Nuvolari is a hybrid powertrain that delivers a staggering 1,001 PS (736 kW). The setup combines a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 800 hp with three axial-flux electric motors, each generating 110 kW of power. Audi says the system has been heavily influenced by lessons learned from its Formula 1 programme, allowing the car to achieve performance figures that place it among the fastest production vehicles in the world.
According to Audi, the Nuvolari can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds and reach 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. The supercar is capable of exceeding 350 km/h, making it the fastest production vehicle in Audi's history. The combustion engine itself is capable of revving up to 10,000 rpm, a figure typically reserved for race cars rather than road-going machines.
Audi says the Nuvolari is much more than a showcase of raw performance. The supercar introduces a number of technologies that are expected to shape future vehicles from the brand. These include a new "quattro predictive ride" system that can anticipate driving conditions and dynamically adjust power distribution in real time, along with advanced active aerodynamics designed to improve both stability and efficiency at high speeds.
The vehicle is built around a next-generation Audi Space Frame architecture featuring extensive use of carbon-fibre components. Audi claims the lightweight structure, combined with aerodynamic innovations derived from Formula 1, plays a crucial role in enabling the car's extreme performance capabilities.
Perhaps even more significant than its powertrain is what the Nuvolari represents from a design perspective. Audi describes the model as the first production vehicle to fully embody its new design philosophy. The company says future models will adopt many of the styling cues introduced by the Nuvolari, including cleaner surfaces, tightly integrated technology, and a more emotional visual identity.
The supercar features a dramatic mid-engine silhouette, a low-slung stance, aggressive aerodynamic elements, and extensive use of carbon-fibre throughout the exterior. Audi's new signature Titanium paint finish also makes its debut on the Nuvolari, further emphasizing its role as a halo vehicle for the brand.
Inside, Audi has focused on creating a driver-centric cockpit with a minimalist layout inspired by both motorsport and premium luxury design. The cabin emphasizes clarity and functionality, with key controls positioned directly within the driver's line of sight. Audi says the interior reflects its vision for future high-performance vehicles, blending digital technology with traditional craftsmanship.
The Nuvolari's launch also arrives at a pivotal moment for Audi. The company is investing heavily in electrification while simultaneously preparing for its Formula 1 debut. Rather than positioning electrification and performance as opposing concepts, Audi is using the Nuvolari to demonstrate how hybrid technology can deliver both sustainability benefits and extreme performance.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner described the Nuvolari as a symbol of technological progress, stating that the project demonstrates what can be achieved when engineering, performance, and innovation are brought together with a clear vision. Audi CTO Rouven Mohr added that Formula 1 serves as an important platform for rapidly transferring advanced technologies from the racetrack to production vehicles.
Production of the Audi Nuvolari will be capped at 499 units globally, with customer deliveries expected to begin in the first half of 2027. While Audi has yet to officially announce pricing, the Nuvolari is expected to sit at the very top of the brand's lineup and serve as one of the most exclusive vehicles ever produced by the company.
With 1,001 PS on tap, Formula 1-inspired engineering under the skin, and a design language that previews Audi's future, the Nuvolari is not merely a successor to the R8. It is Audi's boldest statement in years — one aimed at proving that performance, technology, and electrification can coexist in a single machine.
