Google Pixel Watch 5 Launched With Gemini AI, Advanced Health Tracking and Up to 40-Hour Battery Life
Google Pixel Watch 5 brings deeper Gemini integration, improved health tracking, more accurate GPS and up to 40 hours of battery life. The new smartwatch also introduces Health Guardian features and a brighter 3,000-nit display.
Google has officially launched the Pixel Watch 5, its latest smartwatch focused on AI-powered assistance, advanced health tracking and improved fitness capabilities. The new wearable builds on the Pixel Watch 4 with deeper Gemini integration, more accurate GPS tracking and new Health Guardian features.
The Pixel Watch 5 is available in two sizes — 41mm and 45mm — and comes with a redesigned experience centred around Google's Gemini AI and Google Health ecosystem. Pre-orders are now open, with sales beginning August 20.
Pixel Watch 5 Gets More Proactive Gemini AI
One of the biggest upgrades on the Pixel Watch 5 is its deeper integration with Gemini. Google says the smartwatch can provide contextual information through a new "At a Glance" feature, which can surface useful information such as boarding passes and commute details directly on the watch face.
Gemini can also be activated using the Raise to Talk feature. Users can ask it to start workouts, set timers or retrieve information such as dinner reservations from Gmail. Some core actions are processed on-device, allowing them to work with lower latency even when the watch is offline.
The watch also introduces Gemini Intelligence Proactive Suggestions, which can turn multi-step tasks into one-tap actions. One-handed double-pinch gestures can be used to select, confirm and send certain actions without requiring users to interact with their phones.
20 Percent Faster Performance
Under the hood, the Pixel Watch 5 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor alongside a dual-chip architecture.
Google claims the new watch has 50 percent more RAM and a 12 percent CPU boost compared with the Pixel Watch 4, resulting in up to 20 percent faster overall performance.
More Accurate GPS Tracking
Google is also making a major push on fitness tracking with the Pixel Watch 5. The company claims it delivers its most accurate GPS route tracking yet, with up to twice the accuracy of previous generations in challenging environments.
The GPS system uses 3D building models, satellite ray-path analysis and real-time weather data to account for environmental and atmospheric conditions. Google says internal testing showed the Pixel Watch 5 outperforming the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Garmin Fenix 8 Pro in route-tracking accuracy.
A new Strength Training experience is also coming soon, offering step-by-step workout guidance and the ability to log weights, reps and rest periods directly from the wrist.
New Health Guardian Features
Health tracking is another major focus of the Pixel Watch 5.
The smartwatch introduces what Google calls "Health Guardian" features, including an industry-first breathing emergency detection capability. Using its PPG, accelerometer and barometer sensors along with on-device AI, the watch can monitor for severe and persistent drops in oxygen saturation.
If a breathing emergency is detected and the wearer is unresponsive, the watch can automatically call emergency services and share their location. Google says the feature will launch first in Europe.
The Pixel Watch 5 will also introduce monthly health trend summaries covering blood pressure trends, sleep breathing quality and insulin resistance trends. Google says these features are designed to highlight longer-term changes rather than provide real-time clinical measurements.
Improved Sleep Tracking and Smart Wake
Google says the Pixel Watch 5 delivers 15 percent more accurate sleep-stage detection compared with its previous sleep-tracking algorithm.
The watch also gets bedtime automations, a dedicated bedtime watch face and Smart Wake. The latter uses heart-rate and movement data during the 30 minutes before an alarm to identify a lighter stage of sleep and wake the user earlier than the set alarm time when appropriate.
Google Health Coach will also provide personalised workout and recovery recommendations, including suggestions based on factors such as sleep and heart-rate variability.
3,000-Nit Display and Up to 40 Hours of Battery Life
The Pixel Watch 5 features a 3,000-nit domed Actua 360 display and introduces 11 new glanceable complication styles, two new watch faces and generative watch faces designed around the user's personal style.
Battery life has also been improved, with Google claiming up to 30 hours on the 41mm model and up to 40 hours on the 45mm version. The watch supports fast charging.
The Pixel Watch 5 will be available in new colours including Fog, Canyon and Olive, with Pyrite housing offered as another new design option.
Google has also announced a 45mm Stephen Curry Special Edition featuring an exclusive sweat-wicking performance loop band.
