Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon START for AI Smart Glasses

Tizona Tech Desk / June 18, 2026

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon START aims to help brands launch AI-powered smart glasses faster with turnkey hardware and software.

Qualcomm has announced Snapdragon START, a new initiative designed to accelerate the development and commercialization of personal AI devices, starting with smart glasses. Unveiled at Augmented World Expo 2026 in Long Beach, California, the Snapdragon Scalable Turnkey AI-Ready Toolkit (START) combines Qualcomm’s hardware, software, and partner ecosystem into a single platform that allows brands to bring AI-powered wearable products to market more quickly.

The program is aimed at consumer brands, enterprise-focused organizations, and emerging innovators looking to build personal AI devices without having to develop every component from scratch. Snapdragon START integrates hardware modules powered by Snapdragon platforms with an AI-agnostic software stack, enabling manufacturers to focus on industrial design, user experience, and go-to-market strategies rather than core technology development.

According to Qualcomm, the toolkit supports hybrid AI experiences by connecting devices with companion smartphone applications and cloud services. This approach allows brands to leverage multiple AI models while maintaining flexibility in how those experiences are delivered to end users. The company says the platform has been designed with security and scalability in mind, helping organizations deploy products faster and at larger volumes.

“AI is becoming more personal,” said Ziad Asghar, Senior Vice President and General Manager of XR, Wearables and Personal AI at Qualcomm Technologies. He noted that personal AI devices such as smart glasses can bring agentic AI into everyday life by understanding what users see and hear in real time. Snapdragon START, he added, is intended to simplify the process of bringing such devices to market and expand access to AI-powered experiences.

The first company to join the Snapdragon START program is Inspecs, a global eyewear manufacturer known for licensed brands including Barbour, CAT, Superdry, and O’Neill, as well as its own premium eyewear label TitanFlex. Through an exclusive collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inspecs plans to develop and launch smart glasses across multiple eyewear brands.

Inspecs founder and Executive Chairman Robin Totterman said the partnership combines the company’s expertise in eyewear design with Qualcomm’s technology platform to create smart glasses that fit naturally into everyday life. He described smart eyewear as a category that could fundamentally change how people interact with technology by placing intelligent and connected experiences directly within the user’s field of view.

Qualcomm is also building a broader ecosystem around Snapdragon START. The initiative is supported by technology and manufacturing partners including Avegant, Jorjin, Pegatron, and Thundercomm. These companies will help brands move from concept to production more efficiently, reducing barriers to entry in the smart glasses market.

While smart glasses are the first focus area, Qualcomm says support for additional personal AI device categories is planned later this year. The move reflects growing industry interest in wearable AI products that can deliver contextual assistance, real-time information, and multimodal interactions beyond traditional smartphones.

With Snapdragon START, Qualcomm is positioning itself as a key enabler of the next generation of personal AI hardware, providing brands with the tools needed to bring intelligent wearables to consumers at scale.
