Vi Takes 5G to More Cities, Ends Connectivity Dead Zones on Mumbai Metro

Vi has expanded its 5G network to more cities and enabled mobile connectivity across Mumbai Metro’s Aqua Line 3, boosting coverage for both subscribers and commuters.

Vodafone Idea (Vi) is continuing its 5G expansion drive across India, launching services in additional cities while also improving connectivity for Mumbai Metro commuters by enabling network coverage across a major stretch of the city’s underground Aqua Line 3.

The telecom operator has introduced 5G services in key cities across Punjab, including Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Patiala, while extending its next-generation network to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The latest rollout also includes Bhopal, as Vi looks to strengthen its presence in high-demand urban markets and accelerate its nationwide 5G deployment.

The expansion is part of the company’s broader strategy to increase its 5G footprint across India after entering the segment later than rivals Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. Vi has been steadily adding new locations to its network map, focusing on regions with growing smartphone adoption and rising demand for high-speed mobile data.

In a separate development, Vi subscribers can now access uninterrupted network services across 16 stations on Mumbai Metro’s Aqua Line 3. The newly connected stretch runs between Aarey JVLR and Acharya Atre Chowk, covering several important transit hubs and business districts along the route.

The move addresses a major concern for daily commuters, many of whom had experienced network blackouts while travelling through the underground metro corridor. With mobile coverage now available across stations and tunnels, passengers will be able to make calls, send messages and access mobile internet services throughout their journey.

The restoration of connectivity follows efforts by metro authorities and telecom operators to deploy the required infrastructure within the underground network. The development is expected to significantly improve the commuter experience as ridership on the Aqua Line continues to grow.

For Vi, the dual announcement highlights its focus on both expanding next-generation services and improving everyday network accessibility. As competition in India’s telecom market intensifies, the operator is betting on wider 5G availability and enhanced customer experience to strengthen its position among subscribers.

The company is expected to continue adding more cities and transport corridors to its network expansion plans in the coming months as it scales up its 5G presence across the country.
